Of Novelty, Innovation and Invention
Friday, November 6, 2009Novelty
From what I know and get to know this week NOVELTY is basically mean the quality of being novel; newness; freshness, something new, fresh, or unusual; change; innovation and a small, often cheap, cleverly made article. (http://www.yourdictionary.com/novelty).
From my own understanding and point of view, novelty is value of the work that is deemed to be very unique and have its own goodness. Developed by a creative person to generate new ideas and comes up with something that people could appreciate and how it may change and affect the surrounding or the culture basically. It is a freshness and originality making the item a 'novel' idea. Most of the times for an item, say, a toy/invention to be patented, they have to qualify under the 'novelty' category.
Apart from that, novelty can be very subjective and may caught different attention from different kind of people and they may judge it differently too. Some of the novel idea may change the world and actually effects the world and like wise goes to novelty ideas but only attract attention to certain community and social group.
Above all, novelty is the quality of being new and very abstract to an individual or a community as a whole.
Innovation
What is the importance of being innovative? We created product based on the existence of it and improve the product with different features and more added value to it. So fundamentally innovation requires additional new ideas to the current ideas and results to different feature to the products. It will be the same product but it has more additional value to it.
People try to be innovative and change something for the benefit of it, be it the cost or the material to build something. People also try to implement work in different aspect and research more on how to “modify” the current product so it will attract the attention of user or members of public. Another way of putting this is that an innovation lowers the costs and/or increases the benefits of a task. A wildly successful innovation increases the benefits to costs ratio to such an extent that it enables you to do something it seemed you could not do at all before or did not even know you wanted to do.
Invention
Back in the days, people invent based on what is surrounding them and they try to create something for their own benefit and prove to the world that something new is needed to enhance to current living. Inventing is fun and exciting and everyone can be an inventor. An inventor is someone who thinks of new ways to solve problems in the home, community, or even the world. These solutions are called inventions. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invention)
An invention may be a new product or a new way of doing things. Inventions come about in many ways. Most of the time, inventions happen because someone works to solve a problem. Sometimes inventions are the result of accidents. No matter how an invention is created it is important to keep careful records and document the invention process.

The Characteristic Test
Thursday, November 5, 2009We had this question and answer test in class so i was interview my Nur Sharihan, a lovely girl from Pahang. And she interview me as well.
After a series of questionnaire she described me as an art or a painting.
I assume that painting or an art have many meaning and very subjective. One will can never judge and art work whether it is good or not. Art is one of the way artiste express their feeling may it be anger, happiness, sad etc. We can have so many different kind of art and yet it brings harmony and togetherness in the end product. Some art can be very sophisticated and hard to understand however that what make it unique and one of a kind.
This is what she had drawn.

Defining Creativity
Sunday, November 1, 2009Week 1
How do people define creativity? In my opinion creativity is very subjective and varies from one another opinion. We as a human being can be see creative in different ways and it can apply in every day aspects of our lives. We spend entire day doing creative thing that we may not aware of. But actually it is one of the things that involve in our life.
From the dictionary I found that Creativity (or creativeness) is a mental process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations between existing ideas or concepts. From a scientific point of view, the products of creative thought (sometimes referred to as divergent thought) are usually considered to have both originality and appropriateness. An alternative, more everyday conception of creativity is that it is simply the act of making something new.
Creativity has been attributed variously to divine intervention, cognitive processes, the social environment, personality traits, and chance. It has been associated with genius, mental illness and humor. Some say it is a trait we are born with; others say it can be taught with the application of simple techniques. Although popularly associated with art and literature, it is also an essential part of innovation and invention and is important in professions such as business, economics, architecture, industrial design, and science and engineering.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the ambiguity and multi-dimensional nature of creativity, we have been taught from the pursuit of creative ideas and the development of creativity techniques. This mysterious phenomenon, though undeniably important and constantly visible, seems to lie tantalizingly beyond the grasp of scientific investigation.
This is one of the reference website I have gotten the idea from. Its really cool.
